Virtual Event | A Conversation with Families on the 30th Anniversary of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody

Below is a statement below from the families. We join the families in solidarity and invite you to tonight reflect on their loved ones lost, and all Black lives lost in custody.

"In reflecting upon the past few weeks and all our families’ brilliant advocacy against deaths in custody with the 30th anniversary of the royal commission, it is necessary for us to cancel tonight’s panel.

Simply put, we need to rest. If we cannot practice rest as a radical form of self-preservation in the movement than we have lost the meaning of liberation, freedom and life that we set out to fight for from the beginning.

Instead, we hope that tonight you can spend a moment lighting a candle with us and holding an extended moment of silence to reflect with us on the lives of those who we’ve lost. Afterwards, we hope you can spend time revisiting the numerous interviews, panel discussions and articles published by us - an archive of our needs and our love. There are many events being planned by us for the immediate future, so please stay tuned for their announcements in the coming weeks.

Thank you for continuing to hold us and for your enduring support."
